I had lots to smile about today. Our football team really came through and played a great game, pummeling UNLV 55-7...and that 7 did not come until the last minute of the game. My belief is that if our defense continues to be so dang good, the University of Utah had better watch out. We held TCU to less points AT TCU than Utah did AT HOME. Combine our stellar defense with the offense we saw today, with receivers making plays every down, and you can expect a real rivalry game this year. The Utes had better not underestimate us and get too cocky or they will suffer the consequences. Bronco will make sure of that. BYU has really improved and has 2 weeks to improve even more before the showdown.
Our women's soccer team dominated at the conference tournament and came away with a 1-0 victory in the championship game today. That gives us an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament and would earn us the right to host the MWC tourney next year...if we weren't leaving the league! I expect our team will make it pretty far into the NCAA tournament this year.
Our women's volleyball match did not go so well. We totally owned the first two sets, but then when we made what would have been the winning play in the 3rd set, the refs called a terrible and wrong call on us. Then we thought we won it again, but, of course, the refs called something else on us that we again did not do. For a third time we thought we put it away, when for an unprecedented 3rd time, the refs called something retarded. I try to be fair to refs, but these calls were absolutely blatantly wrong. It raises my suspicions quite a bit since there were NO other calls made the ENTIRE GAME, except right then, when the game was on the line for the other team. I completely disagree with the calls. At most, one of them was legitimately a fault by us. No way in heck all 3 were. We ended up losing off of another wayward call, then completely lost our focus and lost in the 5th set. The crowd was terrible and the refs even more so. But, such is life.
Tomorrow I am going to two different dinners. Pot roast (with rolls provided by me) at 2, then lasagna (with garlic bread from me) at 5, followed by the CES Fireside and dessert. Not too bad if I may say so.
The song of the day is, of course, a Sunday appropriate one.
